DIY or Hire a Professional:

Save Money and Time on Painting

When walking around your home over time you start to notice a wall smudge here, leftover nails there. The new becomes old and sometimes you just need a refresh.

A refresh can be something as simple as giving your ceiling, trim and walls a new coat of paint.

Then you start thinking, should I change the color or keep it the same?

Luckily we have some insight for you on our other blog: Choosing A Color

Okay so you want to stay with the same color, that's a fantastic option as well. Because let's face it, a new color could change your entire decor design. Unless you hone in on the colors you already have.

The next question is, should I paint myself? Which follows up with, is it cheaper to paint a room yourself?

THAT, is the question everyone asks.

The answer however, can be double sided.

Trust me, I get it. I come from a long line of DIYers. My family's thought process was, I don't want to pay someone to do it when I can just do it myself. Or was it that they just didn't have the funds it took to get it done by an outside source?

As an adult, I know that was truly the reason. Instead of spending the money to save their time, they spent their time to save their money.

As good old Benjamin Franklin stated, time is money.

So yes there is absolutely nothing wrong with doing the work yourself. To help you, we have a how-to blog for you here with some tips and tricks on how to get it done. --Tip & Tricks Blog

Still on the fence? Let's also give you some insight on the reason why you should hire professionals.

Painting is not something you can just go all willy-nilly with, if you want a long lasting outcome.

There is the prep work that needs to be done, the cleaning, the sanding the patching of holes, & the covering floors and furniture.

Then you need to have all of the supplies, drop cloths, brushes, roller etc.

Now if you have all of that, great! Typically speaking, you will probably need to head to your local Lowes or Home Depot for the stuff you don't have.

Let us not forget the most important ingredient, the paint!

Hiring a professional relieves you of all the stress, time, research and money you will spend to get the supplies you need. Not to mention, have you seen the price of paint?!

How much is 1 gallon of paint? Actually, how much will 1 gallon of paint cover?

Allow me to answer those questions for you!

For a homeowner to walk into Sherwin Williams and purchase 1 gallon of paint you are looking to be around $70. Say you need a total of 5 gallons, thats a nice price of $345*.

1 gallon of paint will approximately cover 400 square feet. That all depends on the type of paint, the tools you use and your skill level. We also ALWAYS do 2 coats on each wall/ceiling. This ensures maximum coverage and most importantly protection. Because that truly is the purpose of paint; to protect the surface area.

All that being said, there is nothing worse than running out of paint mid wall. So you need to know exactly how much paint to purchase, and sometimes you may even need to start with a coat of primer depending on the current color/state of the walls. Primer can range you anywhere from $40 to $80+ a galllon.

Did you know that contractors receive a discounted price on paint?

It's a beautiful privilege that we pass on to our customers.

Let's sum this up. Hiring a professional gives you the time back that would have spent if you did do it yourself. It also allows you to save on the paint and helps you avoid purchasing a slew of supplies that you probably will not use enough to get your money's worth. Not to mention, you don't have to stress about the paint seeping under the tape and the lines not being straight. Professional painters who do this work everyday will tell you they don't use tape to cut because they have trained their eye and hands to get it done without the "safety net" of tape. Don't get me wrong, tape is great and we use it all the time for prepping and covering outlets (after we take off the outlet cover of course.)

All in all, if you can financially, your best option would be to call a professional.

We will make sure that the job is done right the first time.
